Our Nursery

Located in the central forest region of New Hampshire, at the foothills of the White Mountain range, our nursery sits at an elevation of 1,020 feet. The nursery spans several small plots of craggy forest soils, offering a rugged growing environment. At the heart of our operations is a 14×100′ high tunnel, which serves as a multi-purpose space for propagation, annual vegetable cultivation, and storage.

We focus on closed loop and resource-efficient practices, relying exclusively on woodchips, compost, potash (from our stoves), and biochar to enrich our soils. Due to our limited compost production, it is primarily reserved for vegetable crops. Most of our nursery consists of marginal soils with low organic matter, which directs our efforts toward cultivating plants that thrive in poor conditions.

At the center of the nursery is a small homestead known as The Wandering Turkey, named for the flock of wild turkeys frequently seen on the property, depending on the season. Scattered across the nursery are dozens of ongoing multi-year experiments, each contributing to the development of resilient and adaptable plant varieties.

Our nursery continues to grow, with small sections of land being added incrementally to expand garden plots and experimental areas. Plans for the coming years include planting large plots of elderberry and other perennials to conduct medium-scale field trials.
